Here is some of my designs. Each third
year student has the opportunity to choose his/her own theme for the year.
This could be anything from Architecture to water, I on the other hand choose
something a bit more controversial, religion. Christianity in specific.
This was the easy
part, the next step was to choose who....The idea of creating jewelry pieces
for some of the world's best known religious figures can become daunting.
Understanding why each piece fits to that particular person is in itself more
daunting. I choose an umbrella subject for each person for whom I was to
create a piece:
-
God - creation - Alpha - 7 days - 10
commandments - God - Father, Son, Spirit
-
Jesus - son -
Mary - signs - cross - pain - resurrection - heaven
-
Moses - Egypt - burning bush -
dessert - 10 commandments - promised land
-
Solomon - temple
-
ect.
From this I then created a standard for each
person and in doing so I also created a mini theme for each person. I did not want
to convey a sense of time or place, although I made some exceptions;
Mosses, for instance, being an Egyptian statesman, could have worn a
piece depicting the the iconography of the place of origin. I then set out to
design pieces according to my 'formulas'. The result is what you see before
you. Any comments would be appreciated and could be forwarded to my e-mail
